WOUND CARE SUPPLIES

AUSTRALIA SOURCED

Suppliers you can source for woundcare products. I have tried to source types of dressings in various countries. There may be different brands in different countries

Every health care provider has their favourites, or what they are used to using and have not tried or access to everything. Those working in large health centers, hospitals may be bound to what their companies purchase agreements are.

Try to buy in your nearest country as at this time there are global transport issues.

Most companies will sell to other countries unless the product has alcohol or flammable base.

Gauze, wipes

using saline and gauze with a dressing tray

If no wound pack is available,  you can spray wound directly with a wound spray, saline ampole or microdacyn and wipe with gauze pads to clean wound

HOW TO STOP WOUND STICKING TO DRESSINGS

An interface, usually a mesh , stops wounds that tend to dry  and so stick to a top dressing. This happens if people use a gauze, combine  or thin melolin style dressing. This can pull the scab or top layer off.

Jelonet or others meshes are not needed on foam dressings or scabs.

Bactigras has an antiseptic in the mesh, and jelonet just a jelly layer.

ANTISEPTICS

Povidone Betadine is used all the time in hospitals and in surgery. The betadine listed is in a water solution. The spray means you do not need to pour into a dish first  and less wastage, and because you can’t open it will stay more sterile.

Betadine’s action is about 20 minutes but chlorhexidine up to 48 hours.

Prep pads are little towelletes and individually wrapped in an alcohol base. They can also contain betadine or chlorhexadine.

Antiseptic Powders will absorbs a bit of fluid but may clog some wounds. May be beneficial in between toes.

BANDAIDS

Band aid are the easiest to apply but dont offer much absorption beyond a day if the cut or wound is leaking.

However not all band aids are created equal and some offer more protection and designed for blister care

Applying a disposable glove over finger and toe wounds in the shower help keep dressing dry.
